Spiaggia di Marina di Alberese, Natural beach in Maremma Regional Park, Italy
Spiaggia di Marina di Alberese is a natural beach stretching along a sandy coastline bordered by dense Mediterranean pine forest and clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The entire area is part of the Maremma Regional Park, which protects this stretch of coast in its natural state.
The area was part of the Maremma marshlands for centuries before 20th-century land reclamation projects reshaped the landscape. These changes led to the creation of what is now protected as the regional park.
Visitors construct makeshift shelters from driftwood scattered along the shore, reflecting a long-standing local practice of adapting the beach to their needs. This shows how people interact with and shape the natural space around them.
Access is through the Visitor Center, where you can take a shuttle bus or rent bicycles for the journey to the beach. The route passes through the natural reserve on a dedicated path that lets you experience the undisturbed landscape.
The southern section of the beach is filled with sun-bleached driftwood and branches washed ashore, creating an unusual natural landscape. This collection of tree trunks gives the area a distinctive look that sets it apart from typical beaches.
