Bagni Regina Giovanna, Natural pool and beach at Sorrento Peninsula, Italy

Bagni Regina Giovanna is a natural pool and beach on the Sorrento Peninsula where a limestone arch formation creates a secluded cove with clear seawater. Mediterranean plants surround the area, and the rocky setting creates a compact, sheltered space for swimming.

Roman ruins of Pollio Felix's villa from the 1st century BC sit above this beach, showing how wealthy Romans valued secluded coastal properties. The location's appeal as a retreat spans from ancient times through later centuries.

The name comes from Queen Joanna I of Naples, who favored this bay as a private retreat in the 14th century. Visitors today can sense the connection between royal leisure and the natural beauty of the cove.

Reaching this beach takes about 15 minutes of walking on rocky paths from Capo di Sorrento, with no facilities like cafés or restrooms available. Bring water and snacks, and wear suitable shoes for the uneven terrain and rocky access.

A natural rocky basin connects to the sea through a stone arch opening, forming a sheltered swimming area where water remains calmer than the open sea. This enclosed space provides an unusual bathing experience unlike standard beaches.
