Av.aliados, Pedestrian avenue in central Porto, Portugal

Avenida dos Aliados is a 250-meter granite pedestrian street in central Porto that runs from Liberty Square to City Hall, bordered by neoclassical buildings with ornate facades. Bronze statues are positioned along the route to complement the formal architectural setting.

The avenue was built after 1916 following the demolition of the former laundry district, designed as a grand commercial boulevard lined with financial institutions. This transformation created the modern business heart of the city.

The avenue is Porto's main gathering place where people celebrate New Year's Eve, Saint John's festival, and football victory parades throughout the year. You can feel how central this location is to the city's social life, especially when crowds gather for these special moments.

Two metro stations named Aliados and Trindade provide direct access to the street, while São Bento railway station is located nearby. The pedestrian area is well-lit and easy to navigate, making it comfortable to explore at any time of day.

A large bronze statue of King Pedro IV marks the southern end of the avenue and weighs over 10 tons. Few visitors realize this sculpture represents a pivotal moment in Portugal's struggle for democratic governance during the 1800s.
