Liberdade Square

Liberdade Square is an open plaza in central Porto, surrounded by stone facades and anchored by an equestrian statue at its center. The space connects several key streets and forms an important junction between the main avenues and side streets of the old town.

The square emerged in the 18th century as part of urban redesign in this district and originally carried a different name. Over time it was renamed and its architectural elements were adapted to reflect the city's changing style.

The square takes its name from a freedom movement and serves as a gathering point for locals in the city center. The paving and surrounding facades create a setting where people naturally stop to walk, sit, and meet throughout the day.
