Clérigos Church, Baroque church in Cedofeita, Portugal
Clérigos Church is a baroque structure built with a single nave from granite and marble, decorated throughout with detailed carved ornaments in the baroque style. The interior space shows careful design work with elaborate decorative elements covering the architectural surfaces.
Construction of the complex began in 1732 under Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni and was completed in 1779. This extended building period allowed for the realization of an ambitious design that shaped baroque architecture in Porto.
The main chapel displays religious artworks created by Manuel Porto, reflecting how the local community expressed faith through carefully crafted sacred images and decorations. These pieces show the Portuguese artistic traditions that shaped worship spaces during that era.
The location sits on Rua de São Filipe de Nery and opens daily to visitors, offering access to both the interior and the tower for exploration. Plan time to see the different areas and enjoy views from higher levels.
The accompanying tower rises to about 75 meters and contains a spiral staircase with around 225 steps that lead to viewing platforms. This height offers visitors a wide overview of Porto's historic neighborhoods and creates uncommon perspectives on the city.
