Jardim de Joao Chagas, Historical park in central Porto, Portugal
Green space with ornamental statues, sculptures, lakes, and diverse tree species, including tall elms and magnolias spanning across Campo dos Mártires da Pátria.
Established in 1865 under Viscount Vilar d'Allen's direction, German landscape architect Emilio David designed this park along with the Crystal Palace Gardens.
The garden features commemorative sculptures of notable figures, including poet António Nobre, writer Ramalho Ortigão, and the Flora statue by António Teixeira Lopes.
Located near Clérigos Tower, the park remains open 24 hours daily with free entrance and direct access from São Bento metro station via a 10-minute walk.
In 1941, a cyclone significantly altered the garden's original appearance, leading to a complete restoration that maintained its nineteenth-century layout.
