Chafariz do Laranjal

Chafariz do Laranjal is a small fountain located in Largo da Trindade in central Porto. It features a simple stone structure with a basin and was designed to provide convenient access to water for residents and passersby in the neighborhood.

The fountain was built in 1854 to replace an older well called Fonte do Olho do Cu that had occupied the same location. Around 1916, when Avenida dos Aliados was constructed, the fountain was temporarily relocated to a nearby garden before being returned to its original spot.

The fountain is easily accessible on foot, located directly on Largo da Trindade in the heart of the city center. The site is well-lit during daylight hours and relatively easy to spot, making it convenient to explore the surrounding area.

Some of the stones in the current fountain come from an older water feature dating to the 1500s that operated until the mid-1800s. This reuse of materials shows how the city carefully managed its resources and integrated older structures into new projects.
