Igreja da Trindade, Religious monument in Santo Ildefonso, Portugal
Igreja da Trindade is a church building made of granite with an unusual octagonal shape and simple façades. The interior features decorated plaster on the ceiling, while the main altar displays an ornate carved retable.
Construction began in the early 18th century and extended over several decades until completion. Two bell towers were added later and shaped the building's outer appearance.
The church takes its name from the Holy Trinity and reflects the religious beliefs of those who built it. You can sense this in how the interior is arranged for worship and prayer.
Access to the church building can be challenging for people with reduced mobility due to stairs being present. Plan time for an unhurried visit and check the opening times before heading there.
The façade is covered with blue and white tiles depicting scenes from the life of a saint, giving the building a distinctive look. This tile covering is a rare feature that sets the church apart from other structures in the city.
