Museum of History, National history museum in Old Town, Slovakia
The Museum of History sits along the Danube River in Bratislava's Old Town and holds more than 250,000 objects across several floors. The collection ranges from medieval fabrics and pottery to glassware, ceramics, and religious artwork from different regions of the country.
The institution began in 1924 as a natural history museum and later expanded when collections were brought together to create the current museum. This merging of different sections allowed for a more complete history of the country to be preserved and shown.
The museum displays objects that show how Slovak people lived across different times, from handmade items to everyday goods from various communities. Visitors can see what mattered to people in the past and how they went about their lives.
The building by the river is easy to reach and has multiple entry points that work for different visitors. It helps to allow time to explore several floors since the exhibitions are spread across different theme areas.
The museum runs a special documentation center that focuses on Slovaks who moved to other countries over many generations. This collection preserves personal stories and cultural memories of people who left their homeland.

Bratislava reveals itself through its architecture that combines Gothic, Baroque, and Art Nouveau influences. The Slovak capital is centered around its medieval old town with cobblestone streets, dominated by Bratislava Castle and its recognizable outline with four corner towers. Visitors can explore St. Martin's Cathedral, the site of Hungarian royal coronations for several centuries, or the Blue Church, a 1913 Art Nouveau building fully decorated with blue and white mosaics. The city also features unexpected sites such as the Čumil statue, a bronze figure of a worker emerging from a manhole cover, and the UFO observation deck perched 95 meters above the top of the SNP Bridge. The surrounding area is worth visiting for Devín Castle, a medieval fortress built on a rocky promontory at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers, and the Slavín memorial that overlooks the city from a hill. This collection gathers Bratislava's main monuments and museums to facilitate your exploration of the Slovak capital.
