Cascada La Mina, Natural waterfall in El Yunque National Forest, Puerto Rico.

Cascada La Mina is a waterfall within El Yunque National Forest that drops into a natural pool where visitors can swim. The cascade flows over rock ledges surrounded by thick tropical forest, creating a sheltered area where water remains cool year-round.

The area was once an important mining center, which is where it got its name. After these operations ended, the land was incorporated into the forest reserve and has been protected as a public natural area.

The name comes from old mining operations that once took place in this area. Today, visitors experience the site as a natural retreat where the landscape tells the story of human activity from centuries past.

The trail is well-maintained with steps and railings to help you navigate steeper parts safely. Wear proper hiking shoes and be prepared for wet surfaces near the water, as the ground can be slippery.

The water maintains a refreshingly cool temperature throughout the year, making it pleasant even on the hottest days. This steady coolness comes from underground springs that feed into the basin from the surrounding mountains.
