Vale do Paul
Vale do Paul is a valley in Faja de Cima featuring terraced slopes with diverse crops including mangoes, bananas, and sugarcane. The winding trail passes through thick vegetation, small streams with pools, and working farmland with visible stone reservoirs and livestock enclosures along its course.
The valley has a long farming tradition, with residents building terraces to preserve soil and water for multiple crop types. These terraces enabled settlement and cultivation, making the area an important agricultural center in Cape Verde.
Access to the valley involves steep, winding roads best handled by four-wheel drive vehicles, while hiking takes roughly one to two hours. Wear sturdy shoes, bring water and sun protection, and start early to enjoy cooler conditions and morning light.
Visitors can discover Aldeia Manga, a hidden village of six houses with a flower-filled garden and swimming pond nestled in the valley's heart. A large ridge visible from the settlement often sits shrouded in mist, creating a mysterious backdrop to daily life.
