Cape Verde

The Cape Verde archipelago consists of ten volcanic islands divided into northern Barlavento and southern Sotavento groups, spanning 4,033 square kilometers.

Portuguese colonizers discovered the uninhabited islands in 1456, establishing the first European settlement in the tropics and developing it into a slave trade center.

The population speaks Portuguese as official language and Creole as everyday communication, reflecting the mix between Portuguese and African linguistic influences.

The climate remains moderate throughout the year with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius, making the islands suitable for tourism activities.

The highest point, Mount Fogo at 2,829 meters, represents an active volcano on Fogo Island with its last recorded eruption in 1951.
