Pelourinho, Stone pillory monument in Cidade Velha, Cape Verde
The white marble pillory stands tall in the main square, displaying intricate geometric patterns and traditional Manueline architectural elements from Portugal.
Built between 1512 and 1520, this stone column served as a place for public punishment during the colonial period of the first European settlement in Africa.
