São Miguel, Concelho in Santiago Island, Cape Verde.
São Miguel is an administrative division in the northeastern part of Santiago Island, comprising several settlements scattered across hilly terrain. The area includes smaller communities such as Achada Monte, Calheta de São Miguel, and Casa Branca, each with their own local character.
The district was established in 1996 as an independent administrative entity following separation from Tarrafal municipality. Calheta de São Miguel became the administrative center as the territory developed as its own municipality.
The municipality maintains Cape Verdean traditions through regular celebrations, including annual festivals that showcase local music and dance performances.
To reach the area, visitors travel inland from the main port on Santiago Island through roads that wind across rolling terrain. The various villages are connected by local routes, making it possible to move between settlements on foot or by vehicle.
The population of São Miguel experienced growth from 12,349 residents in 1980 to 16,128 in 2000, before adjusting to 15,648 by 2010.
