Praia da Chave

Praia da Chave is a beach on the western coast of Boa Vista with white sand and clear Atlantic waters that stretch along the shoreline. The northern section has been developed with resort facilities, while the southern part is protected as a nature reserve with local wildlife and coastal vegetation.

The beach was once an untouched coastline until tourism development expanded into the northern section in recent decades. This shift reflects how Cape Verde has grown as a destination and transformed parts of the island to accommodate visitors.

Local fishermen work the waters here using methods passed down through generations, giving visitors a sense of how people have lived from the sea. The rhythm of their daily work shapes the character of the shoreline and connects travelers to the maritime heritage of the island.

The beach can be reached through multiple entry points near the resorts, and the nearby town of Rabil offers shops and food options. Bring plenty of water and prepare for strong sun, as the shoreline offers little shade.

The southern section falls within the Morro de Areia Nature Reserve, protecting plant and animal species found only in this coastal zone. This protected area offers a striking contrast to the developed northern side and reveals how the island's shores naturally looked before tourism.
