Pachamama eco-cafe & park/Jardim Botânico Viveiro, Botanical garden and eco-café in Santa Maria, Cabo Verde
Pachamama Eco-Café & Park is a botanical garden on Sal Island with over 150 plant species and an on-site café serving fresh juices and local food. An efficient water system keeps the green space thriving within the desert environment.
The garden was founded in 2007 as one of the first plant production initiatives on Sal Island. It has used sustainable methods from the start to introduce diverse flora to the dry landscape.
The place demonstrates traditional Cape Verdean growing methods and how plants thrive in dry conditions. Visitors see how local knowledge combines with modern conservation techniques.
The garden is easily accessible on most days, and the café area provides shade and refreshment during your visit. It helps to come in the morning when it is cooler and the plants look their best.
The entire facility runs on solar energy and uses recycled water, making it a model for desert agriculture. Another feature is the care of rescued animals that live on the grounds.
