Ballstad, Fishing village in Vestvågøy, Norway.
Ballstad is a fishing village set on a small island off the southwestern coast of Vestvågøya, positioned near the mouth of Buksnesfjorden. The settlement spreads across the rocky terrain with a natural harbor sheltered by surrounding mountains.
The village grew gradually as a fishing settlement and developed into one of the larger communities in the Lofoten islands. Its founding was tied to the abundant fish stocks in the surrounding waters that drew fishing families to the area.
The village is deeply connected to fishing traditions, visible in its working harbor and the characteristic red fishermen's cabins that line the waterfront.
The village is accessible by bus or car, located roughly 65 kilometers from the Moskenes ferry terminal. Visitors can walk the waterfront paths easily and find basic accommodations within the village.
The mountain Skottinden rises just above the village, offering sweeping views of the surrounding fjords and scattered islands from its summit. This short climb rewards hikers with a rare vantage point overlooking the Lofoten island chain.
