Happy Bay Beach, Secluded beach in Saint Martin, French West Indies
Happy Bay Beach is a sandy shore on Saint Martin lined with palm trees that form a natural barrier between the water and inland vegetation. The coastline slopes gently into clear turquoise water, creating a simple and uncluttered beach environment.
The beach sustained major damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017 and required substantial restoration work afterward. The recovery of its natural environment took time, allowing the shore to gradually return to its current state.
The beach represents French Caribbean beach culture, where visitors freely practice clothes-optional sunbathing following European traditions.
Reaching the beach requires a marked ten-minute walk from Friar's Bay Beach, as no direct road connects to it. No shops or facilities exist on-site, so bring everything you need before heading out.
The beach has no shops, restaurants, or commercial facilities, making it one of the few completely undeveloped spots on the island. This remoteness has protected the location from development and offers visitors genuine peace.
