Hunting Island State Park, Nature reserve in Beaufort, United States.

Hunting Island State Park stretches along the Atlantic coast with wide sandy beaches, maritime forests, and salt marshes woven throughout the land. The property features multiple areas for walking and exploring the natural habitats.

The original lighthouse was built in 1859 and had to be rebuilt in 1875 after its destruction during the Civil War. The rebuilt structure was later moved further inland to protect it from coastal erosion.

The Nature Center displays exhibits about regional marine life and coastal ecosystems, where visitors can learn through hands-on programs how the ocean and shore connect.

The grounds are open daily and provide good trails for walking and exploring that suit different abilities. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for weather changes, especially if planning longer walks through the property.

The lighthouse is constructed from interchangeable cast-iron sections that could be taken apart and moved when needed. This modular approach was a clever engineering solution for managing coastal challenges.
