Frac Poitou-Charente, Contemporary art gallery in Angoulême, France
Frac Poitou-Charentes operates from two locations: a main exhibition space in central Angoulême and a collection storage site in Linazay housing around eight hundred artworks. The main building, designed by architect Jean-Marie Mandon, displays contemporary art across several exhibition spaces.
The institution was founded in 1983 and initially operated from the Hôtel Saint-Simon before moving to a newly designed building in 2008. This relocation marked an important turning point in its development as an art center.
The collection presents work by around four hundred international artists across different artistic mediums, from painting to sculpture to installation. Visitors encounter a diverse range of creative approaches and artistic practices from across the globe.
The gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with guided tours available and a documentation center featuring art publications. Plan to spend enough time to explore the exhibitions at a comfortable pace.
A dedicated space called The Player focuses exclusively on film and video art, showing how these mediums hold a central place in contemporary artistic practice. The secondary site in Linazay also provides experimental areas where artistic exploration and creation take place.
