Freak Alley Gallery, Street art gallery in downtown Boise, United States.
Freak Alley Gallery is an open-air art space between 8th and 9th Streets downtown where murals and graffiti cover surfaces across an alley and adjacent parking area. The gallery displays works in a range of styles and techniques created by artists from the region and beyond.
Artist Colby Akers started this project in 2002 by painting the back door of a local cafe, which inspired neighboring businesses to offer their walls for art. What began as a single painted surface grew over time into a large-scale outdoor initiative.
Local artists reshape this space each August with new works on walls and surfaces around the neighborhood. The site operates as an open forum where the community expresses visual ideas through collaborative art.
The location near Bannock and Idaho Streets is open daily and costs nothing to visit. Walking through the entire space takes time to see all the details on the walls and surfaces throughout the alley and parking area.
Most artwork changes every two years, but certain pieces remain permanent, including a central mural of Jimi Hendrix. This stable element gives visitors a familiar reference point within the constantly shifting visual landscape.
