Plage de Châtelus le Marcheix

Plage de Châtelus le Marcheix is a sand beach on a freshwater lake bordered by forest, offering natural spaces for swimming and sunbathing. The shore features gentle slopes and sandy areas suitable for families and casual water activities.

This beach emerged in the 1970s alongside regional hydroelectric projects that transformed water management in the area. These infrastructure changes created new recreational opportunities for local communities.

Local residents maintain traditional summer festivities at the beach, including regional music performances and communal picnics during July and August.

The beach is easily accessible on foot from the village and offers plenty of space for swimming and relaxing. Visiting on warm days makes the experience most enjoyable when water temperature is comfortable.

Located at about 327 meters elevation, this beach combines mountain air with water recreation in an inland setting. The high altitude location makes it a rare example of an inland waterfront with beach character in the region.
