Strandbad Weißensee
Strandbad Weißensee is a beach and swimming venue on a lake in Berlin-Pankow with sandy shoreline, shallow entry points, and surrounding parkland. The lake reaches depths of about 10 meters (33 feet), water quality is regularly monitored, and the site includes showers, changing rooms, lockers, a bar, and a barbecue area.
The beach opened in 1912 as part of an amusement park. Over more than a century, the site evolved and added modern facilities while keeping its character as a popular swimming destination.
The beach is a gathering place where Berliners come to swim and spend time with family and friends on warm days. The relaxed setting and closeness to nature make it a favorite spot for people seeking a break from daily routines.
The site is easily reached by tram from Alexanderplatz in about 20 minutes, and buses and bicycles are also good options. The beach can get crowded on hot days and may stop admitting visitors when at capacity, so arriving earlier in the day is advisable.
The site features a large flower clock, a sundial-like display about 10 meters (33 feet) wide that is part of an annual flower festival. In winter, when the lake freezes, the ice becomes a skating surface with new views of the park and nearby cafes.
