Park am Weißen See, Public park in Pankow, Germany.
Park am Weißen See is a public park in the Pankow district of Berlin, laid out around a natural lake with sandy shores, meadows, and old trees. It offers boat rentals, playgrounds, an open-air stage, and a restaurant building right by the water.
The grounds began as a manor garden in the early 19th century under Johann Heinrich Leberecht Pistorius, who also ran a well-known distillery nearby. In 1917 it was opened to the public and has served the surrounding neighborhoods as a green retreat ever since.
An open-air stage in the park hosts summer concerts and film screenings that draw people from the surrounding neighborhoods. The Milchhäuschen, a historic restaurant building by the water, is a popular meeting point for families and walkers.
A barrier-free path runs around the lake and connects the different areas of the park, making it easy to get around for visitors with different mobility needs. Coming on a weekday or early in the morning helps avoid the crowds that gather on warm summer days.
The Weißer See formed during the last ice age and is one of the deepest lakes in Berlin, reaching nearly 10 meters at its lowest point. Because of this depth, the water stays noticeably cooler than shallower city lakes even in the middle of summer, which makes it popular with swimmers.
