Piscine de Bellerive, Swimming pool in Lausanne, Switzerland
Piscine de Bellerive is a swimming pool complex in Lausanne, Switzerland. It has three large pools, including an Olympic-size pool and a 10-meter diving tower, set on green lawns by the lake.
Built in 1937 to designs by architect Marc Piccard, the pool was created as a public works project during an economic crisis. It was expanded in 1964 for the national exhibition and later renovated in 1993.
The entrance rotunda and the long changing room block are local landmarks, and the diving tower is a symbol of the pool. On warm days, families and swimmers gather on the lawns, keeping a tradition of outdoor bathing that goes back generations.
The site is open from mid-May to mid-September, with hours that vary by season and weather. It is easy to reach by public transport, and the flat grounds make it simple to move between the pools and lawns.
The diving tower has a spiral staircase, and the changing rooms were originally split by gender across different floors, a layout that still exists today. The pool was once so popular that special tram tickets were sold with entry stamps for the return trip.
