Liido Beach

Liido Beach is a public seaside area in Mogadishu with white sand and clear water suitable for swimming year-round. Restaurants and hotels line the shore, and fishing boats operate nearby, giving the beach an active coastal character.

The beach was developed by Italian colonists in the 1930s and expanded during the 1950s with the construction of a major hotel. This development established it as an important location for leisure and commerce.

Fishermen work along the shore and sell their catch directly to visitors and nearby restaurants, creating a lively marketplace atmosphere. The way locals use this space shows how the coast remains central to the community's daily life.

Visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the strong midday sun and enjoy the beach comfortably. Several restaurants and lodging options are available along the shore, making it easy to spend several hours here.

The beach sits along one of mainland Africa's longest continuous coastlines, a geographical distinction that draws attention to Somalia's maritime position. This extended shoreline has historically made the region important for fishing and trade.
