Handig Beach, Coastal beach in Eastern Samar, Philippines
Handig Beach is a white sand beach on the eastern side of Homonhon Island with a sheltered cove. Clear water surrounds the shore while natural rock formations frame both ends of the bay.
The location is linked to European maritime arrival in this region in the early 1500s. This first contact brought major changes to the area and its local communities.
Local fishing communities have shaped life here for generations, with boats and nets part of the daily rhythm along the shore. The beach remains a working place where traditional practices are still part of everyday routines.
The beach is accessible by boat from Guiuan port, with more frequent service during the dry season from December to May. Visitors should check tide times since they affect the shoreline and the rocky areas.
High tide fills natural rock pools with small sea creatures, creating temporary miniature aquariums among the stones. These pools reset with each tide and offer glimpses of marine life usually hidden from view.
