Woljeong-Ri Beach, Sand beach in Jeju-si, South Korea

Woljeong-Ri Beach is a sand beach on the eastern coast of Jeju Island, South Korea. The shoreline is flat and open, with fine pale sand that gives way to shallow water with a greenish-blue color, and rocky outcrops appear along the edges where the sea has carved the stone over time.

The village of Woljeong-ri on the eastern side of Jeju has served as a fishing community for generations, with local people depending on the sea for their daily lives. As tourism grew across the island during the late 20th century, the beach gradually drew visitors from beyond the local area.

The name Woljeong means 'the moon stays' in Korean, and on clear evenings the moonlight does reflect off the water in a way that makes the name feel earned. The beach is also part of Jeju Olle Trail Route 20, a coastal walking path that many people follow to enjoy the shoreline on foot.

The beach is open year-round, though the warmer months between June and September are the most comfortable for swimming and water activities. Parking is available close to the shore, and small cafes nearby make it easy to spend a full day without needing to travel far for food or drinks.

Woljeong-ri Beach is one of the few spots on Jeju where the waves are steady and consistent enough for surfing, making it a go-to place for beginners learning the sport. Even outside of the surf season, the changing tides visibly reshape the rocky edges of the shore throughout the day, so the view looks different in the morning than it does in the afternoon.
