Plage des Dames

Plage des Dames is a sandy beach on Noirmoutier-en-l'Île with shallow waters and fine sand bordered by pine groves. These natural trees provide shade and frame the shoreline with a wooded backdrop.

The beach gained its name in the 19th century when wealthy women arrived by steamboat to enjoy the seaside during the early years of coastal tourism. This pattern of visitors shaped how locals identified the location and drew more travelers to the island.

The row of traditional white wooden beach cabins lines the shore and reflects how French coastal communities shaped leisure culture in the 1800s. They remain visible reminders of how people organized their seaside visits long ago.

Toilets and waste bins are located near the beach for visitor convenience. A free shuttle bus regularly connects the area to the main town, making it easy to reach without a personal vehicle.

When the tide retreats, large areas of the seabed become exposed, revealing spaces for exploration and discovery. Rocky formations on the left side create natural play areas that hold special interest for children.
