Sauvazie Beach, Beach and surf spot in Bretignolles-sur-Mer, France
Plage de la Sauzaie is a wide sandy beach in northern Bretignolles-sur-Mer with rocky outcroppings visible along the shoreline, especially at low tide. The beach has basic facilities including showers and toilets, and is easily accessible by car, bicycle, or on foot from the town center.
The beach developed over time into a popular spot for water sports, particularly surfing, drawn by the regular Atlantic waves. Today it is known as a venue for local surf competitions and attracts athletes from different countries.
The beach serves as a gathering place where both locals and visitors come to enjoy simple seaside living. Surfers are a regular presence, adding to the daily rhythm, while families settle in for quiet days by the water.
The beach is easily reached with free parking nearby and features a ramp for people with reduced mobility to access the water. Lifeguards are on duty during July and August, and pets are welcome but must be kept on a lead from June through September between 8 pm and 10 am.
A wild secondary beach lies about 250 meters further north, tucked between dunes and accessible only by footpath, far less crowded with a more natural setting. This remote section appeals to those seeking solitude and restored coastline without facilities.
