Vendée Miniature, Miniature museum in Bretignolles-sur-Mer, France
Vendée Miniature is a miniature museum in Bretignolles-sur-Mer displaying a 450-square-meter village with 650 figures and 50 detailed buildings at 1:10 scale. The site recreates a specific time period with every element carefully arranged to show how a community was organized.
The museum was founded in 2004 by Yves and Marie Françoise Aubron to recreate daily life in the Vendée region during the 1920s. The project came from a desire to preserve traditional crafts and the character of village life from that era.
Visitors encounter around 30 traditional trades and crafts displayed throughout the space, including a three-meter-high church with animated rural scenes. The figures show everyday activities that convey how village life flowed in an older era.
The space is open from February through November, with extended hours during summer months. The interior is well lit and can be easily explored on foot.
The miniature landscape contains around 80,000 handmade roof tiles and 25,000 real slate pieces that give the model remarkable realism. Such detailed craftsmanship brings the scenes to life and reveals the patience required to create it.
