Hundestrand

Hundestrand is a dog-friendly beach in Varel along the North Sea coast with designated areas for dogs and their owners. The roughly 500-meter stretch offers sandy shores and shallow waters where animals can roam and swim freely.

The beach developed as part of Varel's maritime heritage, reflecting centuries of North Sea influence on coastal settlements in Lower Saxony. This legacy shaped the local community's relationship with water and the coastal landscape.

Access to the beach is straightforward, with parking just 50 meters from the shore and marked pathways leading to the water. Dog washing stations and rental beach chairs are available in sections 1.1 and 1.2.

The site features concrete pathways extending to the waterline, allowing wheelchair users and their dogs to reach the beach without barriers. This infrastructure makes the location accessible for all visitors and accommodates different mobility needs.
