Porto Nero

Porto Nero is a small pebble beach along Monopoli's coastline spanning approximately 40 meters and lined with dark stones. Natural limestone cliffs frame the water, creating a sheltered cove with clear Adriatic waters.

The name originated in the 1800s when local fishermen discovered black pearls in the adjacent waters. This rare occurrence became tied to the place's identity over time.

Local residents gather at Porto Nero during summer evenings for traditional Apulian music performances and seafood celebrations.

Access is via a stone pathway from Via Procaccia with limited parking near the entrance. The area has minimal facilities, so bring what you need beforehand.

The dark pebbles here form distinctive patterns when waves wash over them at high tide. This visual effect becomes most apparent under certain lighting conditions.
