Praia da Barradinha

Praia da Barradinha is a shingle beach on Portugal's southwestern coast covered with dark pebbles and rocks interspersed with sandy patches. A small stream runs through the center and flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

The beach became part of a protected natural area in 1995 when conservation efforts began to safeguard the coastal landscape. This designation has shaped how the area is managed and protected ever since.

Local fishermen work here using traditional methods that reflect the maritime customs of the Alentejo coast. You can observe these practices during your visit, giving you a genuine sense of how fishing communities have operated for generations.

You can reach the beach by descending a wooden stairway built into the northern cliff face, with parking available near the top. Wear sturdy shoes since the ground is covered with pebbles and rocks rather than sand.

When the tide goes out, natural rock pools appear across the beach revealing small sea creatures like sea urchins and mollusks. These shallow pools let you observe coastal marine life without entering deeper water.
