Praia da Amoreira

Praia da Amoreira stretches along the western Algarve coast with wide sand areas and dark rock formations edging the northern side. The water meets cliffs with parking spots above and wooden walkways that lead down to the sand.

The beach has remained largely unchanged since ancient times, serving as a natural meeting point between the Aljezur River and the Atlantic. This geographic role has shaped the location across many centuries.

The beach has long been central to the fishing community, with boats bringing in daily catches that shape the local food culture. Restaurants here prepare meals using these traditions, creating a connection between the water and the food served at nearby tables.

Two parking areas sit on top of the cliffs with wooden walkways providing safe access down to the sand. Lifeguards are present during summer months, making orientation simple as the two nearby restaurants serve as easy landmarks.

At low tide, the Aljezur River creates natural pools and a lagoon where freshwater meets seawater, allowing swimmers to experience both water types. This phenomenon changes throughout the day as the tides shift and reshape the landscape.
