Formentor Beach, Mediterranean beach in northern Mallorca, Spain
Formentor Beach is a sandy shore on the northern coast of Mallorca stretching about 1 kilometer with fine white sand throughout. The cove is framed by the Tramuntana Mountains and pine forests that reach toward the water's edge.
The beach became known in the 1950s when it drew international artists and writers to its shores. This early tourism phase shaped its reputation as a destination for culturally minded visitors.
The beach has always been a place where locals and visitors connect with the sea in a relaxed way. This easy relationship with the water shapes the feel of the place today.
During the warmest months, private vehicles are restricted and visitors reach the beach using public buses from Port de Pollença. This is especially important to know from June through September.
The water displays different shades of blue that reveal how the seabed gradually deepens from the shore. These color changes happen naturally over about 50 meters as you move away from the sand.
