Praia de Calhetas, Beach in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Brazil

Praia de Calhetas is a beach in Cabo de Santo Agostinho with turquoise waters and golden sand, where volcanic rock sediments create a distinct texture along the shoreline. The stretch features natural formations and gently sloping areas that make it accessible for different types of swimmers and visitors.

This location sits on the northern face of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, where early European exploration of the Brazilian coast began in 1500. The headland marks a point of historical significance in the initial contact between navigators and the South American continent.

Bar do Arthur divides the beach into two sections, Calhetinha and Calheta, each offering different swimming and recreational experiences. On warm days, you see locals and visitors gathering under palm shade, enjoying drinks and the social rhythm of a relaxed coastal setting.

The beach sits about 41 kilometers from Recife and 36 kilometers from Porto de Galinhas, making it accessible for day trips from both locations. Waters deepen quickly from shore, so swimmers should stay within marked zones and use life jackets for safety.

The beach naturally divides into two distinct sections, each with its own character and usage pattern. This separation developed around a popular watering hole that has shaped different experiences on either side over time.
