The Base de loisirs de l'Île Charlemagne is a 70-hectare leisure facility spread along the Loire River with two white sand beaches. The grounds include water areas and multiple sports courts for activities ranging from swimming to ball games.
The site was developed into a leisure center in 1979 and became established as a popular outdoor destination. It earned the European Blue Flag certification in 2009 for its environmental and management standards.
This recreation hub brings people together for outdoor sports and water-based leisure throughout the seasons. Locals and visitors use the grounds for team games, swimming, and casual socializing along the riverbanks.
Entry is free year-round and the grounds are accessible throughout all seasons. Supervised swimming happens from June to September in designated areas, though the beaches and sports facilities remain available outside these months.
The grounds sit along the Loire à Vélo cycling route, which forms part of the pan-European EuroVelo 6 path. Cyclists traveling the river can stop here to rest or enjoy the facilities.
