Bawarka, Bronze dwarf statue at BierHalle entrance in Rynek, Wrocław, Poland.

Bawarka is a small bronze figure at BierHalle on the Rynek that depicts a waitress and stands about 30 centimeters high. The statue shows details of a person in work clothes and sits at a prominent location next to a popular restaurant on Market Square.

The statue was installed on September 12, 2009 as part of a city-wide initiative to honor the Orange Alternative, a movement against communism. It became part of a series of hundreds of bronze figures that rooted this artistic legacy in the city streets.

Bawarka represents one of the few female dwarf characters among the hundreds of bronze figures throughout the city and depicts a waitress at work. The figure offers a window into how residents and visitors notice these art pieces as part of their everyday routes through the old town.

The figure sits right at the BierHalle entrance on Market Square and is easy to locate using tourist maps of the dwarf sculptures. It works best to visit it alongside the other bronze figures nearby to get a complete sense of the art initiative.

Bawarka connects directly to the beer culture of the location and forms a counterpart to another figure holding an outsized wine bottle nearby. This pairing shows how artistic works reflect the local traditions and craft heritage of the city.
