Książę Witold, Dwarf statue in Nadodrze, Poland
Książę Witold is a 30 centimeter (12 inch) bronze dwarf statue positioned at the corner of Pomorska and Dubois streets in Nadodrze. The figure stands near Wrocław Nadodrze railway station and represents the historical Lithuanian ruler.
The statue honors Grand Duke Witold of Lithuania, who ruled from 1401 to 1430 and fought alongside Polish forces against the Teutonic Knights at the Battle of Grunwald. Its placement in February 2017 reflects the district's transformation into an emerging cultural quarter.
This dwarf figure belongs to Wrocław's collection of small bronze statues that have become woven into the fabric of daily street life since 2001. The sculptures encourage people to explore neighborhoods and notice details they might otherwise miss.
The statue sits at the corner of Pomorska and Dubois streets and is easy to reach on foot from the railway station. Exploring the surrounding area on foot helps you spot other dwarf figures scattered throughout the neighborhood.
The tiny sculpture is part of a creative wave that began when artists decided to scatter historical and imaginary figures in miniature form throughout Wrocław. Nadodrze shifted from an industrial zone into a place where people constantly discover new details on familiar streets.
