Śluza Mieszczańska

The Mieszczańska Lock is a navigation structure on the Oder River in Wrocław that manages water flow between different sections. It features stone walls with metal gates that control the water level difference across the river.

The lock was originally built from wood between 1792 and 1794 to enable river navigation. It was reconstructed in stone and metal from 1874 to 1879 to create a more durable and efficient structure.

The lock serves as a key connection in the Wrocław City Water Route, linking different neighborhoods along the river. Visitors can watch boats navigate through this passage that has shaped local water transport for generations.

The best way to experience the lock is to watch it from the riverbank or take a boat tour through it. It operates year-round and is accessible from several points along the Oder.

The lock underwent changes in 1959 that raised the water level significantly. This modification demonstrates how the river infrastructure has been adapted to meet the city's changing needs over time.
