Krasnale Witek

Krasnale Witek is a bronze dwarf statue positioned near the Hansel & Gretel houses in Wrocław's Old Town. The small figure stands roughly 25 centimeters tall and displays fine sculptural detail in its crafted features.

The statue was installed in 2020 as part of a collection that traces its roots to the Orange Alternative movement, a creative form of resistance during communist times. The movement used art and humor to challenge the political system.

This dwarf belongs to a network of over 300 bronze statues throughout the city, each representing the Polish folklore character known as a krasnoludek. Walking through the Old Town, visitors encounter these figures as part of the everyday streetscape.

The statue is easily found on foot while walking through the Old Town's streets, as many dwarfs are displayed openly along buildings and squares. Tourist information centers provide maps that help visitors locate the collection if they prefer a guided search route.

The dwarf stands only a few meters from firefighter dwarfs, creating a small narrative sequence of figures with different occupations and roles. These clusters of related statues reward visitors who notice the surprising details and stories embedded in the cityscape.
