Motocyklista, Dwarf statue at Szewska Street, Poland.
Motocyklista is a small bronze figure on Szewska Street that depicts a dwarf riding a motorcycle while steering with one hand and waving with the other. The statue stands directly in front of St. Mary Magdalene Church and is part of a larger collection of such small sculptures throughout the city.
The statue was designed by artist Matylda Mika and installed on May 16, 2010. It came about during a period when the city was systematically expanding its collection of dwarfs to enrich its artistic landscape.
This dwarf embodies a connection to the Orange Alternative movement, which used gnomes as symbols against communist rule. That history shapes how locals and visitors perceive and interact with the small figure today.
A specialized dwarf map helps visitors locate this and other figures around the city. The printed version is available at the tourist information office, while digital versions can be accessed online.
This figure is the first motorized version in a collection of more than 300 bronze figures throughout the city. The combination of transportation and waving gesture makes it immediately recognizable and popular with photographers.
