Chapelle de la Persévérance, Arts centre in central Pau, France
The Chapelle de la Persévérance is an arts centre occupying a former chapel building in central Pau and functions as a dedicated exhibition space. Inside, visitors find roughly 140 square meters (1,500 sq ft) of wall space equipped with picture rails for displaying paintings and artworks.
The building was constructed in the late 1800s on the grounds of former stables that belonged to a nearby mansion. It served as a chapel for many years before being transformed into a dedicated art exhibition space.
The chapel displays work by local painters and sculptors throughout the year, giving visitors a window into the creative output of artists working in the region today. People come here to see what contemporary creators are making and how they interpret their surroundings.
The space sits on rue de Gontaut Biron in a walkable downtown location and welcomes visitors free of charge. An accessible entrance through the adjoining impasse Honset provides easy access for people with mobility needs.
The former chapel retains its original stained glass windows, which create an unusual blend of spiritual space and modern art gallery. These glass panels flood the interior with colored light while exhibitions unfold on the walls below.
