Train des Combes
The Train des Combes is a narrow-gauge railway that travels through Combes Park in Le Creusot, taking passengers on a leisurely journey through the surrounding countryside. The route passes through forests and fields, crossing bridges and going through tunnels, with the train moving slowly enough to enjoy the views.
This railway was originally built in the early 1900s to transport slag from the furnaces of the Schneider factories in the region. Enthusiasts later restored the abandoned line and returned it to service, allowing visitors today to experience a piece of transportation history.
The train carries the name of the park it travels through, reflecting the connection between local heritage and leisure. Today, visitors experience how this place brings together different generations and interests, all united by curiosity about the region's industrial roots.
The best time to visit is during the warmer months when train departures are more frequent and multiple routes operate. Wear comfortable shoes and plan for about 35 minutes for the main route, though longer journeys can take up to two hours.
The locomotive 241P17 that powers the train was once in regular railway service before being used for these tourist rides. This makes each journey an experience with a genuine piece of railroad history that actually worked for transportation.
