Karuzela Gdańska
Karuzela Gdańska is a two-level carousel located on the Fish Market in the city center, blending Venetian style with hand-painted figures including horses, chariots, and benches. The structure spans approximately 40 feet (12 meters) across and accommodates up to 78 passengers, with all figures moving in rhythm to vintage music.
The carousel was manufactured in Italy by a factory specializing in vintage rides, designed to resemble carousels from more than 100 years ago. It debuted on the Fish Market alongside the St. Dominic's Fair, Gdańsk's major annual event that takes place in the area.
The carousel takes its name from the city and features hand-painted decorations on its crown depicting local landmarks such as the Basilica of Our Lady, the Town Hall, and the harbor. These images connect the ride to Gdańsk's identity and make it a symbol of the place for both visitors and residents.
The carousel is easily accessible by public transportation and located near multiple bus stops and other attractions in the city center. Rides in the chariots are designed to accommodate visitors with disabilities, and there is ample space for moving around and taking photos.
Among the carousel's many figures sits a special Gdańsk lion that embodies symbols of the city's identity. This hand-crafted detail sets it apart from standard carousel rides and creates a distinctive landmark that celebrates the local character of the place.
