Zapora na Łomnicy, Stone dam in Karpacz, Poland.

The Lomnitztalsperre is a stone dam in the Łomnica Valley that holds back a large water reservoir. The structure features a curved shape and was built from solid stone blocks to withstand the weight of the water behind it.

The dam was built between 1910 and 1915 following severe flooding that struck the area in 1897. Prussian authorities decided afterward to construct a dam system to protect the valleys from water surges.

The structure demonstrates early 1900s construction methods using local stone and a curved design that fits the mountain landscape. Visitors can see how engineers of that era worked with natural materials and adapted their techniques to the surrounding terrain.

The area is accessible on foot, with trails running around the reservoir and gentle climbing paths leading to viewpoints. Wear comfortable shoes and be cautious during rain, as the paths can become slippery.

Heavy water release from the dam creates interesting waterfall patterns, especially visible in spring when snow melts. These flowing water displays regularly attract photographers who capture the cascading streams.
