Escape Game Morteau, Escape room in Morteau, France.
Escape Game Morteau is an escape room located in a renovated building with two distinct game levels of varying difficulty. Players work through puzzles to uncover a hidden treasure linked to a smuggler's story, progressing through themed rooms that reflect the region's border history.
The venue opened in 2020, introducing the escape room concept to this traditional French town built on centuries of watchmaking craftsmanship. The local economy had long been shaped by this artisanal heritage and the nearby border's smuggling traditions.
The game weaves together local history through a story about smuggling between France and Switzerland in the Doubs mountains. The puzzles and narrative reference the traditions of border communities and cross-frontier trade that shaped this region.
Groups of two to six players can choose between a shorter game lasting 60 minutes or a longer experience taking 90 minutes, allowing visitors to select based on their skill level and available time. The different durations mean players of varying experience can find an appropriate challenge.
The creator Jérôme designs custom mechanisms and puzzles that draw from regional craftsmanship and local trades. Many visitors discover unexpected connections between the puzzle design and the town's watchmaking heritage through the game's clever mechanics.
