Parco delle Fucine, Mountain park in Casto, Italy
Parco delle Fucine is a mountain park in Casto, in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, built around a gorge with hiking trails, climbing routes, and rope bridges spanning the canyon. The circular route winds through rock formations and alongside a stream, offering sections of different difficulty to suit a range of visitors.
The valley was an iron production center from the 16th century onward, with forges, a foundry, a mill, and a lime kiln all operating across the site. Activity came to an end in 1930, and the stone structures left behind were later integrated into the park layout.
The name of the park refers directly to the old iron forges that once operated in this valley, and their stone remains are visible along the walking path. Locals still identify the area by this craft tradition, which shaped the daily life of the community for several centuries.
The park has sections for both casual walkers and those looking for a more physical challenge, so it helps to know in advance which route suits you best. Equipment can be rented on site, which means you do not need to bring your own gear to take part in the climbing or rope bridge sections.
The rope bridges in the park are suspended directly over a gorge carved by the stream below, so visitors look straight down at moving water and bare rock. This crossing is often the part of the visit that people remember most, even if they came only for the walking trails.
