Nanua camping, Coastal campground in Rangiroa, French Polynesia.
Nanua Camping is a beachfront site with four traditional Polynesian huts on stilts positioned directly in front of a coral beach along Rangiroa's coastline. The facility offers tent pitches and basic amenities including a refrigerator and gas stove for visitors.
This site developed to provide affordable lodging options on Rangiroa, one of French Polynesia's largest atolls that previously had limited accommodation choices. The opening helped make the atoll more accessible to budget-conscious travelers.
The huts here are built with ni'au palm fronds and wooden stilts, reflecting how people on the atoll traditionally live in harmony with the water and reef.
The site sits right on the waterfront, so expect humid conditions and salt spray, especially when the wind picks up. Bringing insect repellent and sun protection is essential, as there is little shelter from direct sunlight.
The water directly in front is so shallow and clear that you can snorkel right from the lodging without swimming far out. Colorful fish and coral formations are visible just a few meters from shore.
